2 More Aircrafts To 'Mihinair' That Devoured Rs. 3200 Million Within A Year
There is an attempt to buy two more aircrafts to 'Mihinair' which had been closed down after losing Rs. 3200 million in one year. According to Flight Global and aviation news two Xian MA60 manufactured in China are to be bought for 'Mihinair' this year.
Member of Southern PC Sajin Vas Gunawardene, a very close associate of the President was appointed the chief administrator of 'Mihinair' launched secretly by the President without even a cabinet paper. During his administration in the year 2008 the company had to return the aircraft that had been leased as the lease had not been paid causing 'Mihinair' to suspend all operations. At the end of this period the company had lost Rs. 3200 million of public money.
Later, another Rs. 6000 million was allocated to 'Mihinair' by the budget of 2009 on mediation of the President. Accordingly, the company was re-launched. During this second period the daily loss of the company was a million. According to a report issued on 15th January, 2009 the number of passengers flying 'Mihinair' was only 23% of its seating capacity. The airline wasted 50 air hours every day and TransAsia Airways had to be paid US$ 2890 per day.
Billions of rupees are being wasted to lift 'Mahinda' to the air and Sajin Vas Gunawardene has been parachuted to the South. The 'Mihinair' story is being replayed with new actors but with the same theme. The government has launched an airline with the money of the general public who has no buses or trains for their transport. While the masses are wasting their time and energy on the roads without a proper transport system the government congratulates itself shouting "the sky is ours." This is how a report on anticorruptsl.com web site reported this fraud.
